Academy of Realist Art
New Saturday class starts September 25th!
We are excited to announce that we are adding Saturday figure drawing class to our schedule. On Saturday mornings Emmy De Musis will be teaching figure drawing from the model. Rendering the human form is the most difficult task in drawing and the beginning stages of construction are the most important. This 8 week course will address the early stage and it's challenges. Working from the nude model, students will be given a step-by-step system that will improve their ability to accurately capture gesture, proportion and body type. From this general block-in, students will advance towards an exploration of the figure's specific contour and shadow line. Each class will consist of one three hour pose. Students will receive individual attention and work at their own pace. All levels are welcome. Cost is $300. Class runs from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Call or email to register.
Open House Wednesday September 15th
On Wednesday Sept. 15th 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. the Academy will have an open house. This is your chance to come for a visit, learn about our program, meet some of our students and see the artwork we have on display. If you are interested in taking classes full or part time we can give you a tour of the school and answer any questions you might have. This is a great opportunity to really understand the program and see the results you can achieve. Please feel free to drop by!
Upon entering the Academy you will find students hard at work on an array of assignments. Their hard work is paying dividends and it shows in their completed assignments. Enrolling students come to us with a variety of previous experience, some have been artists for a while and others are complete beginners. What all students have in common is that they are more skilled at drawing and painting because of their studies. You can work to master the skills of drawing and painting by enrolling in our ongoing classes. We recommend that you come by the studio to have a look around and learn about our curriculum. If you can't come to the open house but would like a tour of the studio call (617) 426-3006 or email ara_boston@academyofrealistart.com.

Located in the historic Leather District of Boston the academy has an exceptionally convenient location. South Station is only 1 block from the studio. From this transportation hub in Boston students can access Amtrak, Greyhound, commuter rail, bus and subway lines.
The Leather District is an up and coming neighborhood in Boston. The recent completion of the “Big Dig” depressed the highway that used to separate this waterfront area from downtown Boston. Loft conversions and an eclectic mix of restaurants dot the area. The studio is nestled amid a small collection of charming buildings that housed leather manufacturing operations at the turn of the 19th century. They showcase the distinctive architecture of their time, New England red brick and cast iron construction with tall plate glass windows. The new Rose Kennedy greenway helps to cocoon the neighborhood in greenery.
Historic and charming are the two words that best describe the cobblestone city of Boston. It’s a small city with easy access to the Atlantic Ocean. It is filled with museums, sports teams, and a multitude of historically significant sites. Its’ energetic pace comes in part from a large student population who live in the city while taking advantage of a myriad of world-class educational institutions.
